Floor conditions that can cause a slip and fall accident

On Behalf of | Jan 5, 2017 | Personal Injury |

When you walk through a mall or grocery store, what do you think about? If you’re like most people, the last thing on your mind is the floor in front of you. Instead, you typically assume that the floor is clear and safe to walk on.

Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Any time you visit a commercial building, you should be aware of the fact that a floor defect could cause a serious slip and fall accident.

Here are some of the more common floor conditions that cause this type of accident:

— Failing to provide warning that a floor is being cleaned or is still wet from a previous cleaning.

— Failing to use barriers to keep pedestrians away from areas of the floor that are being cleaned or unsafe for any reason.

— Using an excessive amount of polish or wax, without considering how this will impact pedestrians.

— Treating one part of the floor but not another, thus causing a drastic change in conditions.

— Failing to keep carpet and rugs in good condition. For example, a curled edge can be a trip hazard.

These are just some of the many types of floor conditions that can cause a slip and fall accident.

If you’re injured in this manner, you need to do two things. Receive medical attention and make note of why the accident occurred.

When you do both of these things, you make it easier on yourself to receive compensation from the negligent party once you’re in position to take the necessary legal steps.
