PERSONAL INJURY
Personal injury law is a general term which describes the law concerning the restitution and compensation for persons who suffer injury or death from a negligent 3rd party. This has been an important part of our practice since our doors opened in 1980. Our firm has handled a wide range of personal injury lawsuits and has earned the respect of fellow attorneys, who often seek our assistance in cases that are either too large or too complex to handle alone.

For example, Fontenot, et al. v. Diamond B, et al. is a case in which Texaco employees were injured in a bow to bow collision on a foggy morning in the Mississippi River. The employees were awarded more than a million dollars and the trial resulted in an overhaul on how the vessel owner conducted his marine transportation business.

In the BP Oil turnaround case, Bennett v. J.E. Merit Contractors, et al., BB&C represented over 1000 workers who were wrongfully exposed to asbestos without proper protection during a complete refinery turnaround. This complicated case combined issues of personal injury, premises liability, workers compensation and products liability. BB&C was able to successfully resolve these claims and bring about a change in the way the refinery handled asbestos materials. This case also paved the way for our clients to receive future medical exams to monitor any future medical condition related to asbestos exposure.

MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE
Medical negligence is a complicated area of law which includes actions for nursing and hospital negligence, physician negligence and nursing home litigation. BB&C has been representing victims of medical negligence for over two decades and have tried cases across the Gulf South from New Orleans to Pensacola, Florida.

In Louisiana, a medical malpractice claim must go before a Medical Review Panel before a lawsuit may be filed. This is a time consuming process which ultimately results in a panel of 3 physicians who review the claim and opine whether the claim has merit. Once the panel=s decision is received, the patient has 90 days to file a lawsuit against the health care provider.

In addition, Mr. Colon is a member of the Medical Malpractice Liability Section of the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association and is very involved in the ever-changing law involving medical malpractice. MOTOR VEHICLE LITIGATION
